12 Tips To Increase Your Daily Steps
Lets chat about some ways that you can increase your daily steps - These tips are going to be super simple to implement and won't cause any extra overwhelm.
Don’t overcomplicate it!
Many people think that something drastic has to be done to get exercise in as part of their day, or to get those daily steps…
But, really, it doesn’t have to be drastic!
You just have to create small opportunities for yourself to move a little more wherever you can.
Here are some important things to note about your daily steps:
Steps are just a way of measuring all your movement.
Steps can be done by spinning, cycling, table tennis , walking on the spot, etc.
Even if I wave my hands, that counts as steps, because my body is moving.
Your body requires energy for it’s movement.
It just tracks it as steps.
Because. Just because it does.
So if you get 10k steps by waving your arms and hands…
Guess what?
You damn well got those 10k ‘steps’!
Steps don’t only come from walking or running.
Even fidgeting will burn calories because you are moving your hands and body.
So, now that we have cleared that up.
Cleared what up Mandy?
You don’t need to run a marathon, walk for 10 hours a day, or do a parkrun for it to qualify as steps.
That’s what we have cleared up.
Let’s digress.
Here’s how you can create small opportunities to increase your movement:
Pace up and down whilst the kettle is boiling.
Pace up and down whilst your food is in the microwave.
Pace up and down when on a sales call or on a call to your bestie.
Walk up the stairs instead of taking the lift.
Walk up the escalator instead of standing still.
Walk to the furthest bathroom, not the closest one.
Park further away from the entrance of the shop or work.
Do some jumping jacks whilst the food is cooking.
Pack your laundry away in multiple trips, not all at once.
Wave at strangers, when safe to do so.
Instead of waiting on the couch whilst your partner is getting ready, pace up and down the house.
If you doom scroll social media, do it whilst pacing around.
These are just 12 examples of what you can do!
Now I know that you are thinking….
“Oh. but Mandy, that will add hardly any steps so what is the point?”
The point is that you ARE adding steps.
And every 100 steps that you add…
Those are 100 steps that you never add.
That is movement that you normally would not have done.
And it all adds up.
You need to break this mindset of ‘Go big or go home’.
You need to break this mindset of ‘only drastic things count’
Start tackling the small things.
Start using the small opportunities.
And you will see just how much your daily steps will increase.
Don’t believe me?
Do it for a week.
Focus on all the small opportunities for a week.
But really focus on it.
And you will see how the magic happens!
Much love
Mandy
